As a dahlia consumer, what would you rather have, and why?
1 tuber for $8 - $14
OR
2 tubers for $12 - $18
Prices would vary depending on variety, of course.
*My reason for asking this;
As a personal small business grower, I've found the prices for singular tubers have skyrocketed within a vary short time. Because of this, I simply cannot afford to get more than one tuber when looking for a variety I'd like to add to my stock. All my eggs are in one basket, and if that tuber fails, I'm completely at a loss. Sure, I could attempt to take a cutting from the tuber, but most farms ship tubers around mid April, which doesn't give me much time at all to take cuttings, especially since mid-April is the time where I've maxed out my greenhouse space. I find myself between a rock and a hard space. Which brings myself back to my first year gardening, years before I started my business, still learning and barely seasoned.. The dahlias I had bought from some large garden center had two, sometimes three, dahlia clumps in each bag. How clever, now that I think about it, for not only the insurance of one or two more tubers, but if all said tubers where viable, I'd have more blooms in the garden.. and that's good news for the hobbyist and commercial grower.
